Training Courses

Play-Base's courses are flexible, accessible and are provided in local venues. Courses are run throughout the year so contact us to discuss your needs and to find out about courses that are suitable for you. 

Here is an overview of our main courses (You can download a PDF file with all the courses at the end of this page!):
  
Core programme:

PlayWorker 1
This is an introductory course for parents, creche workers and volunteers. The course focuses on working in a play setting with young children and understanding the role of play in early childhood. (8 sessions)
Playworker 2
A 'next level'course for people with some experience of working in a play setting. This course covers play and child development in greater depth. (8 sessions) 
PlayWorker 3
This course is for more experienced workers involved in the care of young children. It includes - child protection, risk assessment, health and safety and equal opportunities. (8 sessions)
Understanding Under Threes
Promotings the understanding of the range and extent of the development the child achieves in the first three years. Also supports an awareness of the importance of the context of play in the development of the child. (6 sessions)
Baby Care
This course supports the understanding of early development of babies and the importance of the role of play and interaction in their care. (3x2hrs sessions or can be deliverd in 6x1hr sessions)

Extension Courses:

Observation Skills
This course focuses on the reasons why we observe children and how to improve this crucial skill. (3 sessions)

Child Safety
"Those most at risk from a home accident are the 0-4 years age group.
Most of these accidents are preventable through increased awareness
 improvements in the home environment and greater product safety"

This two hour single session Play-Base workshop addresses issues surrounding child safety in the home.

Emergency Aid
This first aid course is certified by the Health and Safety Executive and is for those with responsibility of care for young children. (2 sessions)

Tutor Training
This course is delivered through both self study and group sessions and equips new tutors to deliver Play-Base courses. If you would like to become a tutor for Play-Base please contact the office for further information. (Rolling entry course)
